    Green dress: Fred Flare
    Tweed vest: Gap
    Flip flops: Rainbow Sandals

I injured a tendon in my left foot earlier this week so sandals are all I've been able to squeeze the swollen foot into whenever I need to get out for errands/sanity saving. It's also just about time for summer to swing in, so I'm starting to embrace the warm weather wear.

P.S. I'm on Weardrobe now. Come be my friend.

    Plaid Love

    Necklace: small things designs
Plaid shirt: stolen out of my mom's closet
    Vest: f21
    Jeans: gap
    Red Mary-Jane pumps: target

Wednesday's one of the days I can actually wear something nice/not black to school since there's no messy class. I plucked this plaid shirt from my mom's closet last weekend when I was visiting - I've been obsessed with plaid of all kinds this summer. The madras/rainbow plaids, the black and white plaids, plaid-crazy! Something supremely summer and sweet about it. Now that's something I don't mind returning from the 90s.

    Turning Lemons Into Lemonade

Once upon a time, I was an idealistic Etsy shopper. I found a seller (who has since closed up shop and disappeared off the face of the internet) peddeling gorgeously remade vintage and new dresses. I fell in love with one, and after waiting nearly two months to get it - received a horrible blob of a dress, with glued on seams (the collar was falling off) and uneven hems. I returned it for another dress, and I received this terrible monstrosity in return:

There was no way to wear this dress without revealing your bra, and the collar was unevenly cut to add insult to injury. It had been stuffed in the back of my closet for the last year while I licked my wounds from this scarring experience.

Recently, I came up with the idea that I wanted a navy form-fitting, high-waisted skirt. Very Joan Holloway. And now that I'm on an art-student budget (read: none), I came up with the idea to refashion this unwearable dress.

It took me about an hour of rough measurements and tailoring, and I ended up with this:

I put together this outfit since I've been crazy about bright plaids lately (probably inspired by my new favorite fashion/style blog: Keiko Lynn).

Orange plaid top: hand-me-down from Annie!
    Black belt: Banana Republic
    Navy skirt: refashioned by me
    Oxford heels: Target

    Palm Springs Plaid

    Cardigan: FredFlare.com
    Brown tanktop: Banana Republic
Plaid playsuit: present from a friend, orig. Old Navy
    Necklace: H&M
Charm bracelet: present from Ryan, orig. Anthropologie
    Knit bow: handmade
    Yellow sandals: Target

Ryan & I took a road trip to Palm Springs today to see the Wayne Thiebaud exhibit (more about the trip here). I must have changed about 5 times - it was 68 degrees this morning at home, but would be 97 in the Palm Springs desert. Finally I pulled out this playsuit my friend Trinh gave me and decided to remix it for Palm Springs. I think the plaid and the colors are just perfect for the little mid-century desert oasis/retirement community, dontcha think?

P.S. It's good to be back, hopefully will be back more with fun postings.

    My Summer Wardrobe

I'm already thinking about it. It will consist of:

    Bright, fun, wear-a-million-ways breezy dresses.

    Pin up girl shorts.

    Rompers!

    And of course, sunglasses galore.

    Calling Spring

    Dress: vintage, Buffalo Exchange(!)
    Cardigan: Banana Republic
    Belt: Banana Republic
    Flat: Bass Outlet

I couldn't believe my stroke of luck when I found this gorgeous 1960s style housewife dress on the racks of a Buffalo Exchange in San Diego late last year. Usually Buffalo Exchange is a trove of Nordstrom, Banana Republic and F21 cast-offs, which I feel less guilty buying since it's recycled, cute clothing. But every so often, I find incredible one-of-a-kind pieces. This authentic vintage dress might be the crown jewel of those finds. It has a perfectly tucked and nipped waist that makes it look miniscule when I'm not wearing a cozy long cardigan, since it is still winter. I had to update the look a bit with a modern cardigan & skinny belt twist, but mostly it was because of the cold morning. I have no problem looking like I stepped out of an episode of the Donna Hay show.

I for one, can't wait for spring.

    Crochet hat: hand/self made
    Bow blouse: Anthropologie
    Grey dress: Banana Republic
    Tights: Target
    Boots: Banana Republic

I feel like an early-20th century Parisian street urchin in this outfit. A few nights ago I saw a beautiful seafoam green knit cap on someone on TV, and decided to crochet one of my very own. I'll post a better picture of it on my blog later. Felt very back to the basics of me to make something with my own hands to add to my wardrobe. Will be doing that a lot more this year...
