Sorry for the lack of updates. With the holiday season, this never ending bacterial infection, and moving to Minneapolis my life has been kind of thrown into disarray. Everything in my apartment, clothes included, have been boxed and ready to go so I've just been wearing what I have. Hopefully when my apartment is cleaned up a little more and people come and buy my stuff I'll start not looking like a sloth. Otherwise I hope everyone is enjoying their vacation!

    Rainbow scarf: handmade by me
    Necklace: smallthingsdesigns
Green polo shirt (underneath): F21 (from 5 years ago)
Sweater: AE (from 6 years ago)
    Jeans: Bitten
Belt: AE (also about 6 years ago?)
    Polka dot socks: Gap
    Shoes (not pictured): Converses

Since I have a purging problem, many of the things I bought when I went on a wardrobe binge before college are still with me.

YAY YAY YAY I'm taking time off from work between Christmas and New Years'! Hopefully I'll be able to bring you some new outfits once I get home on the 27th. May all your clotheshorse dreams come true.

So I totally don't hate one of the pairs of boots I bought on Macys.com, they're actually quite comfy to tell you the truth. I love love love this dress. This is the first time I've worn it outside. I've tried selling it on ebay and at Crossroads because I was desperate for money but no one bit, thankfully!

    Models I love
    0 comments

L-R: Agyness Deyn (almost too much), Coco Rochas, Raquel Zimmerman, Hilary Rhoda

I love the Gemmas, Jessica Stams, and Sasha's of the world but I love these four models because they don't have the extreme doll face that everyone went batshit over and they don't look like they're dying for a crudite. Agyness makes me want to go all gay for her (even though I kind of hate her bff Henry Holland), Coco Rocha looks like she is constipated yet always manages to look FIERCE, Raquel Zimmerman has a jawline Aqua Di Gio would die to sign and Hilary Rhoda looks like that bitch in your English Lit class that always wore Ralph Lauren and whose hair looked as if she ripped off the mane of some wild chocolate brown stallion. Love them.

    Top: Erin Fetherston for Target
    Blue corduroy pants: Gap
    Patent T-strap heels: H&M

This Erin Fetherston top is adorable, yet hard to wear because of its long yet babydoll silhouette. I'm trying it out with long pants here, which I hardly ever wear.

P.S. My dog Lucy has been wanting more spotlight lately, always stealing the shot by running in and poising next to me. I swear I'm not making her!

I'm smitten with the braided knit red scarf I got yesterday at Old Navy. When I first saw it I thought I could just easily make that, but after a slight holiday-crafty-panic attack and the 50% sale on it, sometimes it's just better to let a small child operating a knitting machine in China to make it for you.

This blouse sweater combo is one of my favorite clothing purchases from Target. Usually I'm against the strange combination of built-in-blouse-in-a-vest thing but I think this was done really well. Go Isaac Mizrahi! I really like my silver heels but they smell like cheap pleather, not like that's going to stop me from wearing them!

    Black peacoat (behind): Gap

I don't like wearing long sleeved shirts all day long, and the basement office where I work (ironically a block away from the Pacific Ocean) has a bipolar air system, so I experience blasting heat and frigid AC all day long. Hence dressing like a crazy person. Awesome.

Also, I'd like to point out that this is my favorite skirt ever. The buttons remind me of frosted gingerbread men.

Sorry no post for me today. I've been sick for the past few days and was hoping that I'd be better by now, but alas that's not the case. I tried dressing un-slovenly. What started out as purple cords, magenta undershirt, and gray mandarin collar ended up being me buried under blankets.

How To Clean Out Your Closet & Get Something Out of It Besides Remorse
    0 comments

Along with pulling Christmas decorations out of it this time of year, I also like to clean out my closet This is always an emotional struggle because my mother still sometimes buys me clothes, which I love, but she passive aggressively suggests that I should be a certain size by buying me only size 0 clothes. Which means most of it won't fit -- on a good day. I won't even go into why it's emotionally draining to feel like you're breaking your mother's heart with each teeny tiny article of clothing you're tossing, or how I should really probably see a therapist instead of talk this through blogging. But ANYWAY, as Tim Gunn says, fit is the most important part! It doesn't matter what size your ass is, as long as your pants are tailored for it.

So here are three things I'm going to do in order to relieve this traumatic time for me:

    1. Trade it in (sort of): Banana Republic & Goodwill have teamed up to help you clean out your closet. You can bring a "gently worn, adult sized" sweater in to your local, participating BR store and receive a 30% discount off a new sweater -- for up to three sweaters.

    2. Have a Naked Lady Party in the beginning of January! I'm sure I will have grown weary of ever using my credit card again, as will many of my friends, so I plan on having a NLP sometime after the December holidays. Throw everyone's clothes in a big pile in the center of the room, so no one feels like they're being judged at the counter of Buffalo Exchange. And make lots of cupcakes with the new pastry bag that I've been angling for.

    3. Leaf through 100 Reasons to Get Rid of It. Do so accordingly.

It looked kind of cloudy today so I pulled out this great trench coat that my aunt from San Francisco gave me last week when she came to visit. I wish my mom and my aunt had saved their clothes from the 70s, but I guess when you're 20-something you don't really consider the fact that one day your future child would love to wear clothes that are en vogue at the time. I can't imagine my future children wanting to wear babydoll dresses or skinny jeans.

    Handmade Finds
    0 comments

I have to talk about how I love etsy. It already has a pretty faithful following in terms of the indie/crafting community, but honestly! The accessories are just so dreamy and wonderful, you can pretty much find anything you want from a trendy store (i.e. vintage-style charm necklaces, feathered headbands, etc.), but it's a little less haphazardly marketed to allowance-wielding teens. Nor is it being peddled by people with a huge online equivalent of a junk shop (a la ebay, though that is a wonder in its own right and deserving a wholly separate post). I appreciate the curated shops on etsy, often times by young folk like us with day jobs, just trying to make it on a creative lark.

Sarah Ogden's shop, which is home to this macabre collage-style necklace, is one of my favorites. I have a piece of art from her, but I'm looking forward to getting a necklace once the holidays have passed and my credit cards can breathe again.

Really though, my favorite part about supporting independent artists and crafters, is the extra care they take in wrapping and tying your package up with ribbons and sweet notes. It's like getting a care package from your best friend who went to the East Coast for college.

The belt, skirt, and shoes were all from thrifting yesterday! I had been looking for a skinny belt forever and I finally found this great deep red one that was only $0.99! What a triumph! This weekend my wonderful blogging partner in crime and I will probably hit up a few flea markets so we'll have plenty of success or failure stories next week! I don't have anything in mind to buy, but I would like a few more jackets or cardigans. All my jackets are black and it's getting kind of tired.

    Successful Thrifting
    2 comments

Successful thrifting! It has been at least a good year since I've had the heart to go thrift store shopping. Since H&M opened up at The Beverly Center and close enough to go to during a lunch hour my lust for cheap clothes had been sated. But it's since been time that I dug my hands through racks of moth ball-y clothes and acres of mock turtle necks.

Today I had a half day because I had to go to the doctor's. Luckily, a few minutes away from my doctor were two of my favorite thrift stores, both residing in Duarte (626 represent!)--Thrift Store (so literal) and AmVets (American Veteran's Thrift). These are just the accessories! I've put the clothes in the wash because I don't want to get flesh-eating bacteria, but expect pictures of them (on me!) soon!
