My favorite way to take a break from all the maddening design homework I have now is to browse the vintage section of Etsy. (Really, any online shopping will feed the soul). Lately I noticed I've been favorite-ing a lot of sailor-inspired vintage dresses, like the ones above which have either been purchased or far out of my price range. It's still fun to browse and visually indulge - it's the perfect outfit for spending an afternoon on the Santa Monica Pier, eating salt water taffy, isn't it?

This is a typical Ann outfit - so typical in fact, that Ryan had asked "Why do you need to take a picture of it for Things We Wore?" Well, cause I don't just want to show all the new and shiny things I bought (since that will be limited in coming months!) - and I wanted to challenge myself to constantly remix my wardrobe. I think it's fun to think of new ways to wear things - although this outfit (and variations of it) has been a staple in my closet the past couple years. It's that moment when you suddenly discover you love wearing a camisole with a shirt - and you never even thought of that combination when you first got it. I love little discoveries like that.

Okay, I must confess I am showing off something shiny and new here -- new black mary-jane flats that I got at Target last night. They have a bit of a vintage kitten heel on it, and they were under $10! Target was tempting me with its outrageous shoe sale last night - I got another pair of yellow sandals that I'm sure will be featured here very shortly.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day, friends!

I'm back to being active here, and I'm working on cajoling Annie to join us though I'm sure she's under 20 layers of down coat right now. I've missed putting together creative outfits, and now that I'm back in school - here they come! Also, the lovely 70-80 degree winter we're having here in Los Angeles helps. Wore this to one of my few classes where I don't get dirty/need to straddle a wooden drawing horse.

Here you're also getting a preview of my much more photogenic yard at my new apartment. Being on my new student budget, I'm also being forced to be more creative with my wardrobe - which I'm finding fun for the moment. Aren't we all recessionistas right now anyway?
