Once upon a time, I was an idealistic Etsy shopper. I found a seller (who has since closed up shop and disappeared off the face of the internet) peddeling gorgeously remade vintage and new dresses. I fell in love with one, and after waiting nearly two months to get it - received a horrible blob of a dress, with glued on seams (the collar was falling off) and uneven hems. I returned it for another dress, and I received this terrible monstrosity in return:
There was no way to wear this dress without revealing your bra, and the collar was unevenly cut to add insult to injury. It had been stuffed in the back of my closet for the last year while I licked my wounds from this scarring experience.
Recently, I came up with the idea that I wanted a navy form-fitting, high-waisted skirt. Very Joan Holloway. And now that I'm on an art-student budget (read: none), I came up with the idea to refashion this unwearable dress.
It took me about an hour of rough measurements and tailoring, and I ended up with this:
I put together this outfit since I've been crazy about bright plaids lately (probably inspired by my new favorite fashion/style blog: Keiko Lynn).

Ryan & I took a road trip to Palm Springs today to see the Wayne Thiebaud exhibit (more about the trip here). I must have changed about 5 times - it was 68 degrees this morning at home, but would be 97 in the Palm Springs desert. Finally I pulled out this playsuit my friend Trinh gave me and decided to remix it for Palm Springs. I think the plaid and the colors are just perfect for the little mid-century desert oasis/retirement community, dontcha think?
P.S. It's good to be back, hopefully will be back more with fun postings.
